Highway Women is a biannual online magazine seeking submissions of fiction, flash, creative nonfiction, and those that blur the lines between genres. Under 6,000 words, please. We seek both established and new voices in the writing world, and we are especially interested in writing by ethnic minorities and queer people. We love the gothic, the macabre, the sublime, the grotesque, the always-online, the pulpy. Monsters, lovers, sex workers, thieves, revolutionaries. Truck stops, motels, castles, high camp. We love arcs. We love prose that moves. Our favorite writers are Carmen Maria Machado and Bret Easton Ellis. No topic is taboo, however we probably do not want your political screed or gratuitous rape or murder. No space opera or high fantasy. Writers living outside of the United States are encouraged to submit. Translations in various genres are also of interest.
